Expandable Polystyrene Europe Transcript
The European EPS report monitors prices for block and packaging grade EPS material, in Europe valued in Euros and in the UK valued in Pounds Sterling.
These prices are revised on a monthly basis but the commentary of the report also covers the background dynamics that govern and drive the market. And therefore is just as valuable for the readers in terms of forming their own benchmarks for their prices and the margins on which they need to operate upon.
In order to produce the report we talk to many buyers in a variety of countries, we also talk to distributors; we talk to all the key producers who account for over 90% of the total output in Europe. The market is characterised by long-term stable relationships between producers and their customers.
The report itself is also distinguished by similar long term relationships with our sources, and they recognise the objectivity and the integrity that underlie the report.

Updated to Q1 2016
The European expandable polystyrene (EPS) market remained relatively stable during the first days of 2016. It moved slightly downwards in February, following the decrease in the feedstock styrene barge contract price.
Demand was quoted as healthy in February and was especially strong for packaging grades, whereas it was softer in and around Belgium due to some weeks of heavy rain and cold weather. The last week of the month saw some additional orders as customers were rushing to buy material before a widely expected increase on March styrene. For 2016, growth in the European EPS markets is not expected to exceed 2-3%, according to market estimates.
However, players were taken by surprise by styrene’s three-digit increase, which gave EPS prices a significant upwards push. March demand picked up further after the second week of the month, probably because customers are again pre-buying material amid market talks that feedstock styrene could increase further next month.
