Updated to Q2 2015
Spot polycarbonate (PC) prices have firmed from $2,350-2,550/tonne CIF (cost, insurance & freight) Hong Kong for the general-purpose moulding grade on 1 April to $2,500-2,600/tonne CIF Hong Kong basis as of 24 June.
Steady demand for general-purpose moulding grade PC has helped to support prices during most of the second quarter. However, declines in upstream feedstock bisphenol A (BPA) prices towards the end of the quarter in part stemmed the upward price momentum in PC prices.
The restart of a Taiwanese PC facility following unplanned maintenance that had affected its production in the first quarter gradually freed up its spot supplies for export in the quarter. Nevertheless, steady demand as a whole helped to support general-purpose moulding grade PC prices that have risen by an average of about 4% through the second quarter.
