The Turkish PP market is currently being impacted by fluctuations in the lira, which has seen a dramatic weakening against the US dollar since December 2013 because of on-going political and economic issues in the country.
Demand from finished goods markets, such as carpets, has dropped considerably, with many finished goods manufacturers in the south-eastern city of Gaziantep, a major centre for carpet production, reducing production rates to 50% because of low demand.
Middle East producers continue to supply to Turkey, but prefer to send product to Asia because of better netback opportunities in that region. Indian and Iranian imports to Turkey are currently being in delayed because of shipping and logistics issues in India, and production and supply problems in Iran.
