Updated to Q3 2014
The US toluene market was volatile for Q3, starting at a yearly high then hitting a four-month low in September. The yearly high seen for nitration-grade (n-grade) toluene at the start of Q3 was in line with the quarterly spikes seen throughout the aromatics market. The spike was also attributed to tight toluene supply availability.
Prices came down in August as demand eased. However, the market picked up again in early September because of unit turnarounds, before moving down again towards the end of the quarter.
Commercial-grade (c-grade) toluene prices remained at a discount of 5-10 cents/gal throughout Q3.
