Tricholoethylene Overview Transcript
Tricholoethylene or TCE is a chlorinated solvent used for organic materials and in the cleaning of kerosene-fuelled rockets. Its primary use is in metal degreasing.
TCE lost most of its metal degreasing foothold to trichloroethane but that was reversed after the Montreal protocol restricted the use of trichloroethane. As a result TCE regained much of its market share for metal degreasing.
TCE is also used as a key feedstock in several refrigerant blends, most notably the refrigerant R134a which is the dominant one for automobiles in the US.
Global TCE production is limited keeping supply tight. Demand has remained strong, keeping a strong outlook for the chemical
