Consultation

ICIS is implementing a process of rolling consultation on all of its methodologies. This consultation paper is part of this formal process and covers all of the ICIS primary price points included in the polypropylene weekly publications.

The consultation asks both general questions about the suitability of the ICIS methodology and questions addressing specific polypropylene market issues.

ICIS Summary and Decision

There were two confidential responses to consultation GMC 09/16, and one confidential response concerning the layout and cost of the report.

The first respondent requested more detail about the sources that ICIS consults to gather its information, with a breakdown of sources between traders, processors, producers and distributors. She also wanted to know whether the same sources were called each week. These issues will be addressed separately in editorial correspondence.

The second respondent wanted to have nett prices used in the assessments in all regions, so that different regions could be compared more easily. He also suggested new reports on recycled polyethylene and polypropylene, as well as the same polymers plus polystyrene and nylon made from renewable feedstocks. He also wanted to see supply and demand factors used in the reports. Again, these will be addressed separately.

ICIS will not be proposing any immediate changes to the methodology of the polypropylene report. Any decision to change this methodology will be communicated to subscribers using the usual channels and with the usual notice period.

ICIS continues to welcome any feedback on its polypropylene methodology outside of the formal consultation process.
