PetroChina starts construction of third West-East gas pipeline

PetroChina has started to build the third West-East gas pipeline on 16 October, which will mark the opening of an accelerating pace of the country’s gas pipeline construction into 2013-2014, industry sources said.

The yuan (CNY) 125 billion (€15.3bn) project is designed to deliver 30bn cubic metres (Gm3) of natural gas a year to 10 provinces and autonomous regions in China, PetroChina said.

The third pipeline, which is expected to come on stream in 2015, will help deliver more gas imports from central Asia to China to meet the country’s rising energy demand, the country’s biggest oil and gas producer said in a statement on 17 October.
