The first half of 2016 saw a shift in the global benzene market and prices moved to make Europe the most expensive region. A tightening market balance in the US has seen this change recently.

With new aromatics capacity coming on stream, as well as the restart of some idled facilities in South East Asia, it remains to be seen what the actual effect on global benzene prices will be and whether global demand will be robust enough to absorb the additional product.
