Updated to Q3 2014
China witnessed better demand in the third quarter of 2014, because of much lower prices and a traditional peak demand season.
In July and August, several large suppliers lowered their prices to attract more buying interest from ship owners so as to meet annual sales target. This dragged down China’s average trading prices. Additionally, the persistently declining crude prices further drove down the prices. According to ICIS’s data, the average prices of the third quarter were at around $620/tonne, down by $8 or 1.3% from the second quarter.
And lastly, the third quarter is also vacation season, and bunker oil demand in America and Europe boosted consumption, which indirectly stimulate bunker oil demand.
According to ICIS’s data, 380CST bunker fuel sales in July and August was 1.56m tonnes, up by 0.07m or 4.6% from May and June.
