Updated to Q2 2014
China imported 53.96m tonnes of crude in April-May of 2014, averaging 26.98m tonnes/month, up by 8% from the first quarter. Volumes for the first five months hit 128.69m tonnes, up by 11% year on year, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC).
Despite the peak turnaround period in the second quarter for china refineries, Sinochem Quanzhou's 12m tonne/year refining project was brought on stream in April. Oil injections of crude oil reserves supported crude imports in April and May.
Given that next year is the last in the government's 12th five-year plan, and the government should complete the storage for phase II (2011-2015) Crude Strategic Reserves, the process is expected to speed up.
The China Crude Report is aimed at Chinese crude oil buyers, producers, traders and banks, as well as international exporters to China and everyone with an interest in the Chinese crude oil markets.
The coverage includes:

• CIF (cost, insurance and freight) China assessments for crude grades delivered to China, calculated using a sophisticated model based on FOB spot price assessments and freight rates from ship broker SSY
