Updated to Q3 2014
China’s petroleum coke prices declined in the third quarter mainly because demand remained weak amid sluggish economy and strict environmental policies.
The average price of petroleum coke in China fell to yuan (CNY) 1,028/tonne in the third quarter of 2014, down by 12% quarter on quarter.
Though the average price of GPC fell quarter on quarter, GPC prices saw a slight rebound in September because of tighter supply.
Supply tightened gradually because imports fell sharply in the third quarter. Additionally, refinery running rates dropped slightly because of weak gasoil and gasoline market. The run rates of Shandong independent refineries was at around 48.9% in the quarter, down by 0.7 percentage points from the previous quarter, according to ICIS data.
