Blaze hits Sardinian plant

30 Dec 2003 00:00:00

A fire on 26th December destroyed 300 metres of a 7km coal conveyor belt supplying the Fiume Santo power plant on Sardinia, according to the owner Endesa Italia. Damage is estimated at EUR 1 million. The plant, completed in 1992, can continue running normally for a month using coal stocks of 100,000 tonnes. Fiume Santo’s two 320 MW units were converted from orimulsion last summer but can also burn fuel oil. The conveyor from the coal dock should be repaired by February. DM
