Spain and large polluters to miss emissions deadline
Spain will miss the deadline of 31st March for submitting to the European Commission proposals for the reduction of CO2 emissions, according to energy officials in Madrid. The delay is because of the
change of government following elections this month.
Several of the 15 EU members due to set out reductions to be achieved under the EU emissions trading scheme starting next year are expected to miss the deadline. They include France, Germany, Italy and Greece.
The scheme is part of Europe’s strategy to meet commitments established by the Kyoto Protocol. DM
