Langeled’s Easington terminal gets planning approval

30 Sep 2004 00:00:00

Centrica’s proposed Langeled gas reception terminal at Easington has received local authority planning permission. The terminal will be capable of processing 15-20% of UK gas demand by the time of its expected completion in late 2006. Centrica Energy will oversee its construction while Centrica Storage Ltd will provide technical services to the facility on behalf of the Norwegian offshore pipeline operator Gassco through to 2011, with the possibility of extension.

Jake Ulrich, Centrica Energy’s managing director, said: “Centrica has lobbied hard to support new infrastructure which will bring diverse sources of gas to the UK in the coming years. We have also helped to underpin development of the Langeled pipeline through our contract with Statoil which will deliver gas to our British Gas customers.”
