Investors join bidding in Spanish wind sale

25 Oct 2004 00:00:00

Two investment groups have joined the Spanish power utility Iberdrola in bidding for wind parks with 160 MW of capacity put up for sale by Gamesa, according to industry sources. Bridgepoint and Atlas Capital are willing to pay up to EUR 1.4 million per megawatt, compared to the usual value of around EUR 1 million, it was reported.

Spain’s gas incumbent Gas Natural has pulled out because the price is too high, according to Spanish press reports. The special regime for renewables pays generators about EUR 60.00/MWh for wind power, twice as much as for conventional electricity, attracting investors from Spain and abroad.

The boom in wind power has pushed Gamesa into third place among the world’s makers of wind turbines. The group also develops wind parks for later sale. DM
