German parliament sets second hearing on gas regulation for mid-December

30 Nov 2004 00:00:00

Germany´s lower house of parliament (Bundestag) has scheduled a second expert hearing on changes to the national energy law for mid-December due to the lack of progress in the definition of gas market regulation.

A spokesman for the parliament´ economics committee, which conducted the hearing with industry expects and lawyers earlier this week, said on Tuesday that the time earmarked for expert opinions on gas issues had to be cut short because the ordinance on third party grid access (TPA) tariffs had not been finalised yet and the economic ministry’s draft degree on gas TPA conditions was still subject to interministerial approval.

Therefore, industry representatives and lawyers have focussed mostly on the envisaged regulatory framework for the power sector.

The delay makes it unlikely that the Berlin parliament can proceed with a second hearing before the beginning of next year. IE
