French prices could rise by 7.5% in July

27 Apr 2005 00:00:00

French finance minister, Thierry Breton announced on Wednesday that gas incumbent GDF could raise its tariffs for domestic users by 7.5% in July. Speaking on a French radio station, the minister reportedly said: “If CRE (regulator) gives its backing, there should be a 5% rise in July, plus an additional 2.5%”. Rising oil prices are cited as the main reason behind the decision.

However, reports in the French daily Les Echos suggest GDF could increase its tariffs by as much as 10% through a gradual process staring on 1st July running through until 1st December. The French daily

claims to have had access to the dossier sent to the CRE, stipulating the progressive increase. KT
