Iberdrola’s CO2 output

31 Jul 2006 00:00:00

Spanish power major Iberdrola emitted 13.6 mt of CO2 in 2005, at a rate of 241 g/kWh of power produced, according to figures sent to market watchdog CNMV. This was a year-on-year decrease of 18.4% in Spain and 11.1% in total. The CO2 ratio is normally strongly related to the yearly hydropower output each year, as Iberdrola controls around 70% of the country’s hydro reserves, the company said. A higher number of wind-parks and CCGTs helped the company cut emissions in 2005, even though hydropower output was suffering from the severe summer drought. Of Iberdrola’s production capacity in Spain, 15,250 MW out of 22,878 MW of capacity did not emit greenhouse gases in 2005.
