StatoilHydro receives production boost from Oseberg region
Gas and oil production in StatoilHydro’s Oseberg area in the Norwegian North Sea is set to increase as two satellite fields – Oseberg Delta and Theta Cook come on stream, adding a combined total of 18,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) or 2.88 million cubic metres/day.
StatoilHydro said in a statement that Oseberg Delta came on stream on 27th June, while Theta Cook production started up on 26th June. A further 7,000 boe/d is expected to come on line in the autumn from a second well at Oseberg Delta, StatoilHydro said. Development costs for Oseberg Delta were just over NOK 2.2 billion (EUR 274 million). No figures were available for the Theta Cook well and StatoilHydro was unavailable for comment. Natural gas deposits represent the bulk of the reserves for Oseberg Delta of 8.2 billion cubic metres, but oil will be produced first before the well switches to gas production.
StatoilHydro also announced that a separate field Oseberg Gamma Main Statfjord came on stream recently, adding more than 35,000 boe/d to the Oseberg area.
StatoilHydro’s production target for the next ten years is estimated at 1.5 million barrels of oil equivalent/day (Mboe/d). The company confirmed that its output from the Norwegian Continental Shelf so far this year has been 1.4 Mboe/d (see ESGM 14.109). DM
