UK 1,020 MW gas plant given go-ahead

A new 1, 020 MW gas-fired combined heat and power station has been given the green light by the UK government. The project is to be developed by Thor Cogeneration, a sister company of PX group.

Martin Green, director of Thor Cogeneration said: “We will now finalise the financial and contractual arrangements for the project and expect land preparation to commence very soon, with full construction commencing in 2009 and power being supplied to the grid in the early part of 2012.”

The project developers say the “super efficient” plant will require 20% less gas for each MWh produced.
