European TSOs join central European auction office
Representatives of 12 European transmission system operators (TSOs) signed a memorandum of understanding on joining CASC (Capacity Allocating Service Company), the cross-border services company said on Tuesday.
CASC said in an e-mail Belgian Elia, French RTE, Germany's EnBW TNG, Amprion and Transpower, Luxembourg's Creos, Dutch TenneT, Austrian VERBUND-APG, Greeh HTSO, Italian Terna, Slovenian ELES and Swiss Swissgrid, will all cooperate in cross-border capacity auctions led by CASC.
As of 2011, the auction house will provide yearly, monthly and daily explicit auctions for the Swiss-German, Swiss-Austrian, Swiss-Italian, Italian-French, Italian-Austrian, Italian-Greek and Italian-Slovenian borders.
In addition to this, CASC auction office will manage available transmission capacity offers on behalf of the TSOs and allocate cross-border transmission capacity to individual market participants.
CASC was set up at the end of 2007 and was initially expected to kick start common auctions in early 2008 but suffered regulatory delays. The first auctions between France, Germany and the Benelux region took place in November 2008 (see EDEM 1 October 2008). MU
