Carbon market snapshot
Carbon contracts finished the week on an upbeat note, as contracts strengthened day on day across the board on Friday. Traders credited financial players with driving up the price to explain the move. "In the morning, we saw a rise, due to higher energy prices and significant trading on power," one said. "At the end of the day, financials expected the price to go down, but it didn't - so now they're buying it back." Volumes, however, were reported to be small.
EUA Year 2010 contracts were up day on day, and closed at €14.15/tCO2e. CER Year 2010 also rose, and finished at €11.95/tCO2e. This was a €0.15/tCO2e increase session on session for both contracts.
