04 Aug 2011 18:48:31 | edem

Europe's largest conventional power plant, the lignite-fired Belchatow in Poland, surpassed the 5GW capacity mark on Thursday, briefly producing 5.05GW at 11:17 hours Poland time. The Belchatow plant will increase its total capacity to 5.35GW later this year, and 5.47GW by 2015.

Polish wholesale electricity prices have been depressed over recent weeks owing to testing on the latest 858MW block, which helped Polish utility PGE hit its new record on Thursday.
