Strong electricity consumption in Estonia during the first quarter of 2012 helped the country's transmissions system operator (TSO) Elering to record a year-on-year increase in total revenue, according to the latest company results released on Thursday.

Elering recorded earnings of €34.5m in Q1 '12 compared to €33.1m in Q1 '11, an increase of 4.2% driven by stronger demand for power. Estonia's total electricity consumption in Q1 '12 was 2,418GWh compared to 2,373GWh in Q1 '11, a difference of 1.9%.

Additional support was provided by changes in the TSO's adjusted network charges for 2012, which will see electricity costs for the average household increase by €4 a year.
