RR: Canadian Solar looks to Bulgarian electricity market for expansion

04 May 2012 13:32:41 | edem

North American company Canadian Solar is looking into opportunities to expand further into southeastern Europe (SEE) after supplying 3.3MW of photovoltaic modules for an electricity installation in Bulgaria, which started commercial operation in February.

The solar park is based in the city of Plovdiv, central Bulgaria, and benefits from a feed-in tariff of €0.25/kWh.

The project is part of Canadian Solar's plan for expansion in the region.

"SEE and Bulgaria in particular offer great potential for development, as high radiation levels and the feed-in tariff that are guaranteed for a period of 20 years offer attractive returns for investors," chairman and CEO Shawn Qu said in a statement on Thursday.
