Croatia's HEP selects four bidders for Plomin C coal-fired electricity unit

Croatian state-owned electricity incumbent Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) has shortlisted four companies interested in partnering to construct the 500MW unit C at Plomin coal-fired power plant, HEP said in a statement on Friday.

The selected companies are Italy's Edison, South Korean state-owned utility Korea South-East Power Company, Japanese corporation Marubeni and Polish construction and manufacturing company POL-MOT.

The qualified bidders are invited to participate in the second stage of the bidding process.

"The strategic partner will be selected based on the energy-economic criteria, taking into account the level of involvement of domestic companies in the project," HEP said.

HEP launched the tender at the end of July (see EDEM 24 July 2012).

Germany's RWE expressed an interest in operational involvement, as well as fuel procurement and power sales, but did not enter the pre-qualification procedure (see EDEM 17 September 2012).
