Carbon market snapshot
Carbon prices climbed further on Thursday as hopes over the back-loading proposal soared once again, while strong power prices across the continent lent further support to CO2.
Next week, the European Parliament's Environment Committee, which backed the back-loading this week, is to vote on whether its chairman has the mandate to negotiate with member states over the proposal - the so-called trialogue process. "Trialogue talks could lead to a breakthrough deal ahead of a vote on the backloading plan in the Parliament's plenary," Jefferies Bache carbon analyst Matthew Gray pointed out in a briefing note. The plenary vote is scheduled for April.
