ICIS launches new online platform to provide free information on the small-mid scale LNG sector

27 May 2015 -- ICIS, an independent and trusted source of market intelligence on the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, has launched the ICIS small-scale LNG (ssLNG) portal, a free web-based platform, to provide in-depth coverage of the small-mid scale LNG sector.

Focused on the European small-mid scale LNG value chain but with a window on global developments, the portal offers real-time news and pricing reports, as well as expert analysis into the emerging markets for marine and trucked LNG.

Regulatory changes are driving a number of industries to make the switch to LNG for both environmental and economic reasons. Dedicated infrastructure under construction is encouraging further investments and ever more market participants.

“The building blocks are in place for strong growth in small-mid scale LNG. Whether for bunkering sea-going ships, in inland waterways, or for use in road transport via trucked cargo or truck fuel, or simply for off-grid industries, there has been growing demand in Europe year in and year out,” says ICIS deputy global LNG editor, Ludovic Aldersley.

Yet numerous challenges continue to block key prospective stakeholders and hinder market development.

The ICIS ssLNG portal aims to reduce some of these challenges by providing transparent market intelligence and key price references. It boasts a conversion tool facilitating volumetric and price comparisons across competing transport fuels, as well as incisive news and analysis of underlying market fundamentals.

ICIS has a long history of providing price transparency from the onset of gas market liberalisation in northwest Europe. Our benchmark gas prices are used in a number of small-mid scale LNG delivery contracts in the region.

Confidently navigate small-mid scale European LNG markets, with reliable data and insight helping users benchmark contract negotiations and make informed decisions. This reliable web-based resource from ICIS is an essential tool for ship and truck owners, fuel suppliers, ports and consultants looking to understand and keep up with industry developments.

“Critical market mass is approaching and it is only a matter of time before the aggregated small-scale LNG markets of northern Europe surpass a 4 million tonne per annum milestone. However, the endgame is much larger and not only in Europe, but also globally. As LNG availability and price misinformation still remains a barrier to market development, this portal should be a useful resource to all prospective and active market participants, and provide further impetus for market growth,” Aldersley adds.
