its trading partners and global LNG markets

The international spotlight on Brazil goes beyond the FIFA World Cup in Rio de Janeiro – its rising gas demand has also caught the attention of the global energy markets. Brazil has emerged as a premium market for LNG, brought about by record-low rainfall and diminishing hydropower electricity generation.

Impact on the region and global LNG markets

Despite possessing huge offshore gas reserves, Brazil’s state-run energy company, Petrobras, has tripled its LNG imports in recent years in order to cover rising industrial demand and increasingly unreliable hydropower electricity generation. Ongoing drought conditions have propelled Petrobras into the LNG spot market to compete with premium buyers in northeast Asia, thus influencing global LNG prices. Petrobras recently announced its intention to look for LNG supply on the longer term and to open up the country’s existing floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) and LNG terminals to third-party access.

Through this exclusive webinar, you will gain a detailed insight into:
  • Downstream energy market structure in Brazil
  • The existing energy supply matrix
  • Constraints and challenges for reliable and cost efficient gas supply
  • Petrobras’ LNG buying trends
  • Brazil’s pending energy reforms and the potential for market liberalisation
