TORONTO (ICIS news)--Olin will permanently close its chlorine, caustic soda, and sodium hypochlorite operations in Dalhousie, Canada, by early June and its sodium chlorate operations in August, for expected annual cost savings of up to $10m, the US producer said on Wednesday.
The company was exiting the sodium chlorate business while chlor-alkali customers would be supplied from its other production sites in North America, it said.
A caustic soda storage and distribution terminal would begin operating in Dalhousie in June, it added.
Olin expected to incur cash expenses of $3m in 2008 associated with the shutdown.
It did not disclose capacity details.
