EU construction output in June increases by 0.8%

ConstructionLONDON (ICIS)–EU construction output levels rose by 0.8% in June compared to the previous month, data agency Eurostat said on Tuesday.

Construction output for the eurozone was up by 0.7%, Eurostat added.

Revised data also showed that production in May 2013 rose by 0.3% and 0.5% respectively, instead of a fall of 0.2% and 0.3%.

The construction industry is a key end market for chemicals producers.

“Among the Member States for which data are available for June 2013, production in construction rose in four, fell in six and remained stable in Spain, France and Hungary,” Eurostat said.

“The increases were registered in Slovenia (+10.5%), Poland (+5.3%), Germany (+1.6%) and the Czech Republic (+1.3%), and the largest decreases in Romania (-2.4%), Portugal (-2.2%) and Sweden (-0.9%),” the agency added.

Year on year, construction output in June fell by 1.5% in the EU and by 3.0% in the eurozone.

“Among the Member States for which data are available for June 2013, production in construction fell in ten and rose in three,” Eurostat said.

“The largest decreases were registered in Poland (-16.3%), Portugal (-12.0%), Slovakia (-10.7%) and the Czech Republic (-9.8%), and the increases in Hungary (+12.5%), Spain (+4.1%) and Sweden (+3.1%),” it added.
