Europe solvents barge prices firm with feedstocks

LONDON (ICIS)--European solvent barge prices have firmed following rises in the value of raw materials naphtha, gasoline and crude oil, sources said on Friday.

Hexane is valued at $1,000-1,020/tonne (€740-755/tonne) FOB (free on board) Rdam (Rotterdam), returning to the levels seen four weeks ago.

The $30/tonne gain is largely feedstock driven, but a producer said demand for hexane into the construction sector was still at a healthy level.

“Hexane – it seems demand is seasonally strong from the construction sector,” the producer said.

In relation to naphtha solvent and white spirit, the producer described demand as steady.

It did, however, see naphtha solvent prices firming on the back of gains in the value of gasoline and naphtha.

Solvent naphtha is valued at either side of $1,000/tonne FOB Rotterdam.

Meanwhile, white spirit barge prices are steady.

White spirit prices typically follow fluctuations in the value of jet kerosene and jet kerosene prices have been stable over the past three to four weeks.

White spirit is currently valued at $1,035-1,050/tonne FOB Rotterdam.

Although sources in the solvents sector spoke of reasonably healthy demand from the construction sector, EU construction output levels fell by 1.3% month on month in September.
