LONDON (ICIS)--Thailand’s PTT Global Chemical plans to debottleneck its "Aromatics 2" unit at Map Ta Phut, Rayong province, raising capacity by 16% to 1.24m tonnes/year, the company said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.

PTT said that it hired South Korea’s SK Engineering and PTT Maintenance and Engineering to carry out the $128.8m (€95.3m) project, which is slated for completion by the end of 2015.

The plant’s paraxylene capacity will be raised to 770,000 tonnes/year, from current levels of 655,000 tonnes, and benzene will be raised to 390,000 tonnes/year, from 355,000 tonnes/year.

The expansion project will also add 20,000 tonnes/year of orthoxylene capacity, which the plant does not currently produce. Toluene capacity will remain unchanged at 60,000 tonnes/year.
