HOUSTON (ICIS)--US November auto sales increased by 8.8% year on year, while year-to-date sales climbed 8.4% from the same period in 2012, US-based research firm AutoData reported on Tuesday.

US November auto sales of passenger cars and light trucks totalled more than 1.245m units, up from nearly 1.144m units for the same month a year ago.

Among the major US producers, Chrysler had the largest year-on-year gain, with sales up by 16%, followed by General Motors at nearly 14% and Ford at 7.1%.

Year-to-date sales were at nearly 14.240m units from the 13.136m vehicles sold through November 2012.

US auto sales are a key indicator of the strength of the nation's chemical industry, especially for polymers such as acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene (ABS), polycarbonate (PC) and nylon and for styrene butadiene rubber (SBR).
