SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Chinese producer Shiyou Chemical’s phenol/acetone unit at Yangzhou in Jiangsu province remains off line on Friday, after a fire broke out at the site on the morning of 12 December, market sources said.
The cumene unit at the site was also affected by the fire and it remains unclear how long repairs at the facility will take, according to market sources. Cumene, which is produced from benzene and propylene, is a feedstock for phenol/acetone.
Shiyou Chemical is expected to resume its phenol/acetone output the following week and will be operating the plant at a reduced rate, the sources added.
The plant can produce 200,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 120,000 tonnes/year of acetone.
Shiyou Chemical is a subsidiary of Kingboard Chemical Holdings, which operates a 200,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone plant at Huizhou in Guangdong province.
