MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Chinese producer Shiyou Chemical plans to restart its phenol/acetone unit at Yangzhou in Jiangsu province in the week starting 23 December, after completing repairs to damages caused by a fire, a company source said on Tuesday.

The restart of the plant, which can produce 200,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 120,000 tonnes/year of acetone, has been delayed by about a week.

Shiyou Chemical on 12 December shut its phenol/acetone unit along with the upstream cumene unit after a fire broke out at the site.

The company plans to restart all the units in the week of 23 December, the source said, adding that it is maintaining shipments to its core customers from existing inventories.

Shiyou Chemical is a subsidiary of Kingboard Chemical Holdings, which operates a 200,000 tonne/year phenol/acetone plant at Huizhou in Guangdong province.
