LONDON (ICIS)--Total Petrochemicals has declared force majeure on butadiene (BD) supply from its production sites in Feyzin and Gonfreville in France as the plants have been shut down because of ongoing strike action, a company source said on Friday.
The force majeure declaration was made on Tuesday, 17 December.
Workers have been on strike since 12 December following disagreements over a pay deal.
Initially production was reduced but as the steam crackers shut down the lack of crude C4 feedstock also meant the BD units had to close.
The company source said it was difficult to source alternative BD supplies in December hence the force majeure declaration.
BD nameplate capacity at Feyzin is 40,000 tonnes/year while at Gonfreville it is 65,000 tonnes/year.
There was no indication when production may resume and force majeure lifted.
