SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s LG Chem will be reducing the operating run rate of its bisphenol-A (BPA) plant in Daesan today, company sources said on Tuesday.

The plant has a nameplate capacity of 150,000tonnes/year and it was previously running at close to full capacity before the reduction.

It remains unconfirmed as to how long LG Chem will be running the plant at 70% capacity as the company will need to observe the market situation, the sources added.

The margin for BPA makers have been eroded by the high prices of raw materials in the last few months of 2013 and this reduction in operation rates by LG Chem is an attempt to balance out market fundamentals in a currently oversupplied BPA market, some industry players commented.
