LONDON (ICIS)--Germany’s Altana has acquired the polypropylene (PP) wax emulsion business from Netherlands’ biotechnology company Royal DSM for an undisclosed amount, Altana said on Tuesday.

Once the acquisition is completed, the PP wax emulsion business will be integrated into BYK Additives & Instruments, the division with the largest sales within Altana, according to the company.

“This acquisition expands our existing portfolio in the field of wax emulsions, and now enables us to offer customers an even broader range of additive solutions,” said Christoph Schlunken, president of the BYK division.

Specialty chemicals company Altana has been expanding in recent months through several acquisitions. In October 2013, it bought Rockwood’s rheology business, which the German company financed through debt. In August 2013 Altana acquired Henkel's specialty coatings business.

Products made from PP wax emulsions include coat glass fibres to manufacture composites, generally used in the construction and automotive sectors.
