SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Styrindo Mono Indonesia (SMI) plans to shut its 250,000 tonne/year styrene monomer (SM) facility No 2 in Merak for maintenance from the end of the month, a company source said on Friday.

“The shutdown will last for around 10 days,” the source said.

The company also operates a 100,000 tonne/year No1 SM plant at the site that is due for turnaround in January 2015, the source said.

A planned two-week turnaround at the smaller unit was pushed back from November this year, the source said.

SMI is Indonesia’s sole producer of SM.

Other producers in southeast Asia include Ellba Eastern in Singapore, Styrene Monomer Malaysia and Siam Cement Group-Dow in Thailand.
