LONDON (ICIS)--There is a need for more communication on the subject and definition of “green”, an industry speaker from ?xml:namespace>
“There is confusion between ‘bio-sourced’ and ‘biodegradable’,” said Sebastien Vautier, global lubricant specialist for Peugeot Citroen.
This confusion can lead to what is described as "savage drains" -- basically meaning that the oils may be drained from the vehicle in a non-environmentally safe fashion if the consumer misunderstands the labelling.
The speaker pointed out that Peugeot supports the introduction of bio-based lubricants, but stressed that this is if "green" is considered to be bio-based oils, not only the additives.
“And, the product must have superior performance, especially in fuel economy,” he added.
The Peugeot speaker was called upon to bring an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) perspective on the subject of defining and clarifying the use of the term “green” within the lubricants industry.
