Strong fall in EU DEA exports in December - Eurostat

LONDON (ICIS)--EU diethanolamine (DEA) exports fell 95% year and year in December 2013, according to Eurostat data released this week.

Imports were also down, falling 54% year on year over the same period.

The significant fall in exports meant that Europe was actually a small net importer for that month.

DEA is less abundant in Europe than other ethanolamine grades, due to its demand in the Americas for glyphosate production, so Europe is normally a net exporter.

Full-year 2013 figures show the 44% rise in exports year on year, as demand in the Americas, along with the limited market in Europe, pulled product away.
