SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Jishen Chemical, a subsidiary of Jilin Shenhua Group, has started up part of its new 300,000 tonne/year propylene oxide (PO) unit located at Jilin province in northeast China, a source close to the company said on Friday.
One line of the new PO unit, with a capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year, had been conducting trial runs during the Lunar New Year holidays. The line has been brought on stream now, the source said.
The company plans to start up its second 100,000 tonne/year line in late February or early March. However, time frame for the start up of third 100,000 tonne/year line was not immediately known.
The new unit would be the largest PO unit in China after all three lines are brought on stream, the source added.
The construction of the new PO unit started from 20 April 2012, with an investment of yuan (CNY) 2.5bn ($411m), the source said.
The producer could use the PO internally to produce downstream polyether products, and it is building a polyether unit now. The new unit is expected to be on stream in 2015, one market source said.
The capacity of the new polyether unit was not immediately known.
