SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Datong Guangfa Chemical Industry is planning to bring its 600,000 tonne/year coal-based methanol unit in Shanxi province on stream on 25 February, a company source said on Friday.
“We are currently conducting trial runs at the new plant and estimate to put it into operation on 25 February,” the source said.
The unit is expected to achieve on-spec production in early March, the source said.
The plant is the first phase of the company’s 1.8m tonne/year methanol project, on which will be tied a 600,000 tonne/year methanol-to-olefins (MTO) unit at the site that is currently in the designing stage, the source said.
The timeline for building the remaining 1.2m tonne/year coal-based methanol capacity has yet to be fixed, the source said.
Financial details of the whole project is not immediately known.
