SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Geermu Zangge Potash Co Ltd is operating its 1.5m tonne/year potassium chloride (MOP) plant in Qinghai province at 60-70% of capacity, following the unit’s restart on 18 February, a company source said on Monday.
“We are currently running the plant at low operating rates and expect to achieve on-spec production as the weather becomes warmer,” the source said.
The company shut the plant on 10 December 2013 as winter set in, according to the source. Almost all of the MOP plants were shut down during the winter season.
The restart of the plant should help ease the tight supply of MOP in the Chinese market, traders said.
