SINGAPORE (ICIS)—China’s Qinghai Salt Lake Industry Co Ltd is operating its 4m tonne/year potassium chloride (MOP) plant in Geermu, Qinghai province, at 90% of capacity following its restart on 18 February, a company source said on Friday.

We have not achieved on-spec products as the equipment is not stable, and it will take a few days to resume to full production,” the source added.

The company shut the plant on 10 December 2013 because of a shortage of feedstock amid the cold weather, according to the source.

The high operating rate of the plant is expected to increase the supply of MOP in the market and may pull down the market prices in the near future, a market source said.
