SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec Jinan Co restarted operations at its 500,000 tonne/year bitumen production facility in Shandong on 1 March after a three-month hiatus, a company source said on Monday.

The refiner halted bitumen production for around three months, because of reduced crude oil supply following the blast at the Dongying-Huangdao pipeline in November 2013.

Sinopec Jinan plans to produce around 20,000 tonnes of AH-100 bitumen in March, the source said.

Domestic supply of bitumen that is used in the construction of roads will increase significantly after the plant’s restart, an industry source said.

Currently, only one domestic refiner Sinopec Luoyang Petrochemical is producing AH-100, with a daily output of 800 tonnes, the industry source added.
