HOUSTON (ICIS)--US spot ethylene prices were steady on Thursday despite the report of a cracker outage from earlier in the week.
US Eastman Chemical reported on Thursday that it shut down its Longview cracker in Texas on 3 March, according to a filing with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The filing said that the shutdown was due to a combination of site-wide steam/condensate energy emergency and instrument problems on a steam drum.
The issues caused two compressors to shut down the 640,000 tonne/year ethylene unit.
Despite the ongoing production issues, US March ethylene traded at 51.25 cents/lb ($1,130/tonne) on Thursday, flat with a trade done the previous day.
