SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sichuan Petrochemical plans to start commercial production at its new 150,000 tonne/year butadiene (BD) unit this week, market sources said.
The additional BD capacity coming on stream will further pressure prices lower in China, which is currently seeing domestic prices falling due to oversupply and weak demand, the market sources said.
Chinese domestic BD prices have tumbled by more than yuan (CNY) 2,000/tonne ($326/tonne) since early February to CNY8,800-9,000/tonne DEL (delivered) in east China on 10 March, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
