LONDON  (ICIS)--Foster Wheeler has agreed to acquire an environmental business from Germany's Siemens for an undisclosed sum, the Switzerland-based international energy and petrochemicals engineering major said on Thursday.

Foster Wheeler said that under the deal it would acquire the assets of the Siemens environmental systems business that supplies and services clean air technologies for use in power plants and industrial facilities.

The deal includes US assets of the former Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control Company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Advanced Burner Technology Company in Branchburg, New Jersey.

Combined, the acquired businesses design, engineer, retrofit and service a range of clean air technologies for power and industrial plants including wet and dry flue gas desulphurisation and particulate control; acid gas control; mercury control; nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction; and combustion optimisation systems, Foster said.

Foster expects to complete the acquisition in the second quarter, it said. The deal is not expected to affect the timing of the completion of Foster’s planned merger with UK-based engineering group AMEC, it added.
